The Umzi Wethu residential facilities are staffed by qualified professionals and caring parental figures. The residence aims to provide a structured and safe home-like environment for each student during their time at the academy. Comfortable residential accommodation and nutritional meals are provided along with work clothing and a small weekly allowance for basic supplies. Medical and dental care is made available to all students, as it is required.
Residential life provides students with the stability they require in order to achieve success in their professional development program. Class and work attendance are almost 100% as students do not have to contend with public transport or the intense demands of family life.
"The residence is a good place to stay; it’s almost like a second home to me."
"It is good because I’ve learnt a lot about other people’s personalities and values. Residence life is a tool to build independence…one must be responsible for his/her own actions, our parents are not there to hold our hands, so now I am responsible"
"The fact that it provides one with a safe environment/home for one to grow as a person. It changed my life."
"She (Ntombi) is a good mother, always there when you want her, she is a good mother that always listens, comforts, loves when you open up and talk to her."
"The food is healthy and delicious, I enjoyed it."
"I enjoyed the residence, especially when everyone was present, we would sit together and chat in the lounge. Res life is one of the memories I will treasure when I’m gone here."
